Inquiries & Referrals

Dr. Collett is an expert in treating dry eye, which is a chronic condition that affects millions of adults. If you suffer from eye discomfort of any variety, dry eye is the most likely cause. We offer detailed evaluations to determine the severity of your condition, then quickly implement a treatment plan to achieve the relief that you deserve.

Dry eye is often under-treated, leading to discouragement and frustration. At Surgical Eye Experts, we take an interventional approach that is aggressive, but appropriately so. Do not settle for the limited results that over-the-counter (and even prescription) eye drops provide! Schedule an evaluation today.

Do I have dry eye?

Ocular surface disease can cause an array of symptoms. When you book an ocular surface evaluation, we will identify the subtypes of dry eye you are suffering from. Equally as important, is determining if you have a mild, moderate, or severe case. An individualized treatment plan can then be built and implemented.

Here are some signs of dry eye:

Blurry vision

Fluctuating vision

Tired eyes

Pain

Gritty sensation

Itching

Red eyes

Crusty eyes

Tearing (paradoxical dry eye)

Difficulty wearing contacts

Interventional approach

How many times have you rubbed your eyes today? How many different eye drops have you tried in the past year? Eye discomfort is a huge inconvenience that we want to help you overcome. Interventional dry eye treatments, such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Prokera (biologic bandage), are intended to quickly and effectively reduce symptoms. You could even enjoy the benefit of decreased dependence on eye drops.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL is a fast and simple treatment applied to the skin. OptiLight is the first and only FDA-approved IPL method for dry eye management. As part of our commitment to using the most advanced technology, we proudly offer this safe, gentle, and effective dry eye solution.

OptiLight uses pulses of light precisely administered in the area below the eyes. During your treatment we apply a cool gel on the skin area and cover your eyes with shields to protect them. In addition to dry eye relief, you may see improved appearance of the treated skin, which is a very happy side effect of IPL.

Prokera

A biologic bandage that helps the eye heal and return to its normal state. Prokera falls under the broader category of amniografts, which are biologic tissues that promote healing and regeneration. Reserved for moderate and severe forms of ocular surface disease, the bandage remains in place for only several days, but has the capacity to reverse damage that has occurred over months (even years).

But my eyes are constantly tearing!

You might be surprised to learn that overly watery eyes can be a symptom of dry eye. The mechanism of “paradoxical dry eye” can be reversed with a low-risk surgery that is done in the office. Dr. Collett is one of the few surgeons in Houston certified in ocular surface reconstruction to treat excessive tearing from paradoxical dry eye.
