Surgical Eye Experts is a single-physician boutique ophthalmology practice in Bellaire, Texas, serving the greater Houston metro area. Dr. Geoffrey Collett, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist, evaluates your eyes, performs your surgery, and oversees your follow-up care personally. The same surgeon you meet at consultation is the one in the operating room, and the one reviewing your healing at every visit.
Our focus is medical and surgical eye care for adults: cataract surgery with both standard and premium intraocular lens options (including the Light Adjustable Lens), interventional dry eye treatment, glaucoma management with MIGS surgery and SLT laser, pterygium removal with amniograft, YAG capsulotomy, and YAG laser vitreolysis for floaters. We do not perform LASIK; for refractive laser vision correction, we refer to trusted colleagues. Our staff is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Strong partnerships with healthcare providers
Quick access to our very own surgical suite

Locally owned practice dedicated to our community
Most ophthalmology practices in the Houston market are multi-physician groups where evaluation, surgery, and post-operative care are distributed across several providers, residents, or rotating clinicians. Surgical Eye Experts is structured differently. Dr. Geoffrey Collett, MD is the only surgeon at the practice. The same physician who reviews your imaging, recommends a treatment, and answers your questions is the one in the operating room and the one greeting you at your one-day, one-week, and one-month follow-ups. For patients undergoing premium-IOL cataract surgery or staged interventional dry eye treatment, that continuity matters.
Cataract surgery is the most common procedure performed at our Bellaire office. The cataract (cloudy natural lens) is removed with phacoemulsification through a microincision and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). The standard monofocal IOL is covered by Medicare Part B and most commercial insurance. We also offer premium IOL upgrades that are not covered by insurance but can reduce dependence on glasses for some patients:
If a cloudy film develops behind the IOL after cataract surgery (posterior capsular opacification, or PCO), it is treated in-office with a quick YAG capsulotomy.
Dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) are common causes of burning, stinging, fluctuating vision, and contact lens intolerance. Standard care often stops at over-the-counter artificial tears or prescription drops like cyclosporine and lifitegrast. We take an interventional approach for patients whose symptoms persist despite drops:
Detailed evaluation, staging, and an individualized plan are the starting point. Read more on our interventional dry eye page.
Glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage the optic nerve, usually from elevated intraocular pressure. Vision loss from glaucoma is permanent, which makes early detection and consistent pressure control essential. We manage glaucoma with eye drops, in-office laser, and minimally invasive surgical implants:
A pterygium is a wedge of fibrovascular tissue that grows from the conjunctiva onto the cornea, often in patients with significant outdoor sun exposure. When a pterygium causes redness, irritation, induced astigmatism, or threatens the visual axis, surgical removal is appropriate. Dr. Collett performs pterygium excision with amniotic membrane graft (amniograft) to reduce recurrence compared with bare-sclera removal. Read more on our pterygium page, including a detailed week-by-week recovery guide.
Most floaters are harmless and become less noticeable over time. For carefully selected patients with large, persistent, visually disabling floaters, YAG laser vitreolysis is a possible option. It is not appropriate for everyone; candidate selection requires a dilated retinal exam. A sudden increase in floaters, sudden flashes of light, or a curtain over vision can indicate a retinal tear or detachment and is a medical urgency. Call 281-800-1585 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department.
Our Bellaire office is centrally located on Loop 610 at 6800 West Loop S #120, a short drive from the Texas Medical Center, the Galleria, downtown Houston, West University Place, Meyerland, and Memorial. We also see patients from across the broader Houston metro:
We accept Medicare Part B and most major commercial insurance plans for medically necessary care. Standard cataract surgery and a monofocal IOL are insurance-covered. Premium IOL upgrades, IPL therapy for dry eye, and YAG vitreolysis for floaters are typically out-of-pocket. CareCredit financing is available for self-pay procedures and upgrades. Call 281-800-1585 with your insurance information for an estimate before scheduling, or visit our financing page for details.
